Edgewater Elementary was one of the oldest active school buildings in Jefferson County, and most instructional and support services were deficient in space. Various additions and alterations were made in 1986 to the school including library/media center and classroom additions. Connecting the building's four levels to comply with ADA requirements presented a challenge to the design team. LOA Architecture's design featured a new atrium entry and bay windows for classrooms brought increased natural light and a new visual identity for the school.
